Important Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights Management”

Intellectual Property Rights Management

Dr. Poornima represented Prometheus IP services at a workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights Management” held at the Directorate of Poultry Research on 18 February, 2019. The invited lecture focused on “Trademark and GI” with particular reference to animal/poultry case studies.  The first talk presented by Dr. Elangovan from Indian Institute of Millets Research stressed on the importance of monetization of Intellectual property and licensing procedures in general with critical challenges faced in the field of animal genetic sources.

Taking this forward, the subsequent presentation on GI and trademarks by Dr. Poornima reiterated the need for better protection strategies in the field of animal genetic sources. The workshop was attended by the technical experts and student community in the directorate of poultry research and the interactive session provided insights into the future of intellectual property to protect the valuable animal genetic resources of our nation.

Prometheus skillfully manages IP assets of its clientele on a global scale by strategic partnership with associates. This interactive workshop shed light on the growing need for better protection strategies for animal genetic resources in India in addition to existing registration and/or characterization of animal breeds and varieties. The productive discussion provided us new insights regarding the approaches that needed to be considered while working with the intellectual property aspects in animal genetic resources.
